Ala Albarakeh cookbook

Final Project. Guided by Noa Segal. 2021.

This cookbook is a window into the kitchen of a Nazarene mother, with her daughter documenting through photography and design.

The literal meaning of the word “barakeh” is blessing, but the symbolic meaning is used when you make a recipe without the exact measures; so you make it “ala elbarakeh” (with blessings) meaning you eyeball the measurements.

“Ala albarakeh” are the two most used words by my mother when she cooks food. She doesn’t follow a recipe or measure any ingredient. She eyeballs every thing she adds, meaning she adds it “ala albarakeh” (with blessings) and that’s the secret of Arab cuisine.
This cookbook is a window into the kitchen of a Nazarene mother for you to discover.
Special thanks to my mother and her golden hands - without her this couldn’t have happened.
